Voters will choose between assembly members Luke Hopkins and Tammie Wilson at a runoff election Nov. 3.
“There are several important issues facing our community, and this is a great way to allow the public to hear what the two candidates for mayor have to say,” the TV station’s general manager, Chris Fry, said in a written statement.
Former Anchorman Bill Burrows will host the debate, which is being sponsored by the University of Alaska Fairbanks journalism department.
The debate airs at 7 p.m. Candidates will ask questions of each other and the public can submit questions to news@tvtv.com, a news release stated.
At 9 p.m. on the same day, KJNP will feature the mayoral candidates on its station, Channel 4.
On Thursday, KFAR 660 AM radio is hosting an hourlong debate in the Borough Assembly chambers. The debate will be styled after the Abraham Lincoln-Stephen Douglas debates.
The public is invited, and the debate will be broadcast live on the radio at 7 p.m., organizer Steve Floyd said. Floyd is a program director and radio personality.
“Basically, it’s a back and forth just between the candidates,” he said.
On Friday, the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce is hosting a noon forum at the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge.
A buffet lunch will be available for $18. The forum is otherwise free.
The chamber is encouraging attendees to RSVP via e-mail at RSVP@FairbanksChamber.org.
Audience questions will be accepted as time allows, a news release stated.
